holiday wrap-up
My iBook was in the shop, and I don’t have my RapidWeaver site saved on the iMac. Nihal just needed a new AirPort card, but it’s one of those models where it’s not accessibly under the keyboard. Fortunately, my AppleCare is still good through September 2008, so it didn’t cost me anything except the aggrevation of not having a laptop and not being able to blog. ;)
So, I’ll try to sum up my December in a single post. Here goes.
In early December, I became antsy about not having a tree, but there were no trees to buy yet. Apparently in Denmark, it’s normal to put your tree up on the 23rd. I just can’t do that. We finally got one on the 15th or so, and decorated her with a couple ornaments I made, one I got from the UK through the International Nestie ornament exchange, and a bunch of cheap IKEA ornaments that came together in a package. It looks way better than I was expecting. I like it a lot, actually! For a tree topper, we got this big wooden star at IKEA that’s meant to be a wall hanging, and spray painted it silver. It looks awesome. Tree skirts don’t exist in Denmark. I’m hoping to get one imported but obviously it’s too late for this year. I need more décor for around the condo. Hooray for 70% off sales at Panduro Hobby!
Thomas and I spent solstice alone together. It was nice. We went to the in-laws for a traditional Danish jul thing. We ate too much, and did the whole singing around the tree thing. So fun! T got a drill and 100-something bits. I got a set of fun red placemats and a supernice blender. For shared gits, we got a goat in Africa, and an autographed set of exact first edition replicas of the first 12 Discworld books. Very cool. From my family, I got money which is always appreciated. I got my family some Danish ornaments. MIL got a sewing machine from the three kids plus me. T and I got FIL a nice carafe, BIL a Blade Runner boxed set, and SIL some baking supplies. I gave T the His Dark Materials trilogy and permission to buy a post-MacWorld laptop. He gave me Breaking the Spell and God is Not Great.
We’ve seen many movies this month. Golden Compass – enjoyable; a good solid OK. Hairspray – liked it. Hitman – not particularly good but still entertaining. I Am Legend – mostly good but quite disappointing in the end. Enchanted – amazingly good; you must see this movie. Lots of rentals, too. And we finished watching Matador – so good!
Finished the flooring the foyer. Started the flooring in the bedroom. Living room baseboards are poised for being done next month. Hopefully the foyer too! Ceiling lighting installed in living room and foyer. Wipe-off board installed in the kitchen. Curtains and nightstand in the bedroom. Things are really coming along, but I am still impatient to paint the bathroom; the school-bus-yellow walls are a bit much. I need to add pics of the work we’ve done!
Sent out cards to just about everyone I have an address for. If you didn’t get one, tell me your address!
I was totally rocking the FlyLady system until a week ago. Being at the in-laws for a couple days totally threw me off, and now I’m a bit ill and I have a minor foot injury. Mount Washmore must get chipped away at today. I will hobble to the hamper shortly. T will probably get most if not all the rest of the bedroom flooring done today.
We’ll be going to a New Year’s party with Michael and Martin (and a bunch of people I don’t know) in Gilleleje.
Well, that’s all I’m dilvulging for now.
Until next time!
