About Lorry
Who are you, anyway?
My name is Lorry. I'm named
after my father, Larry, and not the vehicle, and it is not
short for Lorraine, Lorretta, Lorrelei or anything else. I
was born March 7, 1978 on Tyndall AFB near Panama City,
Florida. I now live in Herlev, Denmark (in the Greater
Copenhagen Area) with my wonderful husband Thomas, our
wonderful daughter
Dagmar, and our wonderful cats. I'm a
former Mac Genius and current
happy housewife.

Why is your last name so long? Why isn't your maiden
name part of it? How do you say it? etc.
My husband's
name came pre-hyphenated, so it would have been pretty
silly to add my maiden name, Strother, to it. The Fach part
is Dutch, and they way we say it, it rhymes with
sock. Whether the Dutch say it that way, I'm not
sure. The Pedersen part is Danish. When we're in the US, we
don't expect people to say it in Danish, so we say it
exactly like the common last name Peterson. In Denmark,
people don't have a problem saying it properly. The
d is what is known as a "soft d," which we use in
English as a
th in words like
the. The
r is more like a British or German person would
say it than how an American would. Additionally, there is a
glottal stop in the middle, just to make it more
complicated Danish. Please note that, like
every other hyphenated name I've heard of, both the part
before the hyphen and after it are in my last name. Neither
part is optional. I'm not Lorry Fach. I'm not Lorry
Pedersen. I'm Lorry Fach-Pedersen. The way people get this
confused, you'd think I was the first person to have a
hyphenated name.
How did you meet Thomas?
We met online in an IRC
channel for users and developers of Mozilla software, such
as Seamonkey and Firefox. It's not one of the support
channels, but just a general hangout channel. I'm actually
an Opera user, but they let me stick around anyway. After
years of commuting back and forth, we are finally together!
You're married? Tell me all about the wedding!
All
wedding-related plans and details were provided on a
separate site, but aren't anymore. There are some pictures
and a video in the Photos section, though.
You sound really cool, or I used to know you a long
time ago! I want to get in touch with you!
I have a
gmail/gtalk account under the name alcyone56, and an AIM
account with the same name. You can also find me on social
networking sites such as
Facebook and
Care2.
About Lorry's Technology
Fellow geek, share the specs of your b0xen!
I
currently use two computers regularly. One is Kurhah. She
is a white 2.4 GHz MacBook with 2 GB RAM and a 250 GB hard
drive. Alderamin is my 1.9GHz iMac G5 iSight with wireless
keyboard. With him, I use a third-party pointing device,
namely a Logitech wireless optical trackball. Both
computers run MacOS 10.5 "Leopard." Frequently used
applications include
Opera,
Colloquy, and standard
OS and iLife/iWork 06 apps. I am also a fan of
Freeverse's
Burning Monkey games, and
the only Microsoft-related product I own or use is
Zoo Tycoon. I used Linux
exclusively at home for years before switching to
Apple. My favorite distribution was gentoo, however I
do not foresee installing Linux for home use again in
the near future because I love my Macs too much.
What other geeky wares do you possess?
I have a
16GB white iPhone named Porrima. We have two
AirPort Expresses in our
home, and we love AirTunes. I have an orange iPod
Shuffle, with the following personalization:
RedBroughtCloserToHumanityByYellow. (It didn't fit
with spaces. It's part of a quote from Wassily
Kandinsky.) With my Shuffle, I use either JBL
Reference 220 headphones in white, or, when flying,
Bose QC2s.
